We all have things we are deeply afraid of whether it is an irrational fear or not.
A lot of people tend to be afraid of spiders. In fact, arachnophobia is one of the most well-known and widespread phobias there is. And yes, the experts are always saying that the only way you can overcome your deepest fears is by confronting them head on. But how would you feel if you were quite literally forced into confronting your overwhelming fear of spiders? I’ve always been freaked out by the thought of waking up and seeing a giant bird-eating spider crawling on the wall opposite my bed. But how excruciatingly revolted would you be by the mere prospect of a spider crawling out of your ear? Very, I’m assuming. Even those who claim to be completely unafraid of spiders would be very alarmed by the reality that a six-legged insect had been dwelling in their ear. Well, one Indian woman who had a spider living in her ear was sure it was simply an ongoing headache that couldn’t be eased by painkillers, but boy was she wrong. She felt that there was something in her ear causing a obstruction, but she had no idea what it was. She tried digging into her ear with her fingers to retrieve whatever it was, to no avail. And she even asked her daughter to examine the inside of her ear using a flashlight, but she couldn’t see a single thing. The spider must have travelled a fair bit when it crawled into her ear. According to The Indian Express, the woman in question was identified as Lekshmi. She was taken to hospital in Karnataka, India after suddenly falling ill with very painful headaches. She had started experiencing the headaches after falling asleep on her veranda. When she was at the hospital, the doctor saw that there was a living spider in his patient’s ear and was utterly shocked. Luckily, he managed to get the spider out after shining a light into Lekshmi’s ear.
According to Dr. Shivaswamy, “It is common to see emergency room visits due to the presence a foreign object in the ear and it takes a simple procedure to remove the object.”
Yes, it may well be fairly ordinary to get, say, a little bead stuck in your ear but you’d think if an insect was capable of crawling inside your ear, it would eventually find its way out on its own. Yet it took an emergency trip to the hospital to remove the creature.
“When a living insect makes its way inside a human ear, the patient’s anxiety makes it difficult to continue the procedure,” the doctor continued. “It was a rare to see a live spider moving inside someone’s ear canal.”
When Lekshmi was told that a spider had been living in her ear, she was understandably taken aback. However, she handled the situation in a very calm manner considering how bizarre it all was.
“I was terrified as I could feel movement of a creature in my ear. The acute earache followed by sharp pains suffocated me,” Lekshmi explained. “I couldn’t think of anything and was petrified when the doctor confirmed presence of a spider in my ear.”
When the doctor realized he had an extremely bizarre case of “foreign object trapped in ear” on his hands, he began to film Lekshmi’s ear as the spider slowly crawled out. The footages makes for an incredibly eye-opening, yet uncomfortable viewing. Take a look if you dare: It takes an incredibly brave person to be able to deal with the fact that a spider has been living inside their body. But hopefully now that this ordeal is over, Lekshmi will never have to experience anything like that ever again! As it turns out, these spiders are relentless! Check out this hilarious footage of a news reporter freaking out about a spider crawling up her arm.
